YOUTH & FAMILY MINISTER POSITION

Summary: The Youth Minister will serve as part of the church staff in ministering to our congregational needs focusing on overall education and ministry activities for church youth in grades six through twelve. The Youth Minister is to promote biblical discipleship by planning, promoting, and coordinating the youth activities of the church. The Youth Minister will set an excellent example to our youth and to stress the importance of Christianity in their personal life and in their association with others. The youth should be taught and encouraged to PRAISE God in spirit and truth, to CARE for others with compassion and love, to GROW spiritually, and to SHARE God through both teaching and benevolence. This position will develop rich, Godly relationships with the church youth and their families. The Minister will possess and effectively communicate a thorough knowledge of the Bible while exemplifying a mature and deep abiding love for Christ.

Working Relationships:

Reports to:  Tusculum church elders

Supervises: Applicable youth interns

Collaborates with: Youth deacon(s), staff, ministers, and Youth Leadership Committee and Parents

Responsibilities include:

  • Help our youth develop a rich love for God by teaching Middle School and/or High School Bible classes on Sunday Mornings and Wednesday nights (rotations with others); coordinate teachers and curriculum for other Bible classes. 
  • Plan and implement strategic activities for the youth and their families that will materially contribute to the spiritual, mental, and social development of our youth in accordance with 1 Timothy 4:6-16, (e.g. youth retreats, camps, mission trips.)
  • Foster an engaging, safe, inclusive, service-oriented culture 
  • Possess a strong moral compass and be able to provide Christian guidance to teens and their parents, as they navigate challenging situations. 
  • Provide the youth with exposure to, and involvement in, other ministries of the congregation including worship, missions, and service.
  • In collaboration with the elders and relevant deacons, develop a specific, ongoing and measurable plan for goals/objectives in each mission area within the first 90 days of employment to be evaluated on a regular basis.
  • Preach and teach as needed in the absence of the pulpit minister and others.
  • Timely and effectively communicate youth ministry goals, events, and progress to church leaders, students, parents, and the congregation
  • Be involved in local members’ school activities where appropriate and if time allows
  • Maintain requested records associated with studies, events, attendance for evaluation purposes
  • Develop and administer an annual ministry budget as approved by the elders

Qualifications:

  • Male baptized believer and active membership in the Church of Christ
  • Minimum of 2 to 3 years’ experience leading and teaching in a youth ministry setting or similar is preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Valid driver’s license who is willing to apply for a CDL (if one is not already obtained)

  • Strong written and communication skills.
  • Mission driven, positive attitude, team player, and self-directed.
  • Clearly communicates both in word and deed that one’s life is completely devoted to God and people.  

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS – This is a full-time position requiring the ability to travel from one location to another within and around the region.  Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare and communicate appropriately.  Requires lifting papers or boxes up to 40 pounds occasionally.  Regularly required to work early morning, evening, and weekend hours. Work may be stressful at times.
